a week from hell for the city of orlando. good evening i'm dawn timmeney in for lucy noland. >> i'm iain page the recovery of the boy's body heartbreaking confirmation of what many expected. the orange county sheriff just wrapped up a news conference a few minutes ago, and he says the body of two-year-old lane graves was found by divers around 1:30 this afternoon at 3:30 the child was removed from the seven seas lagoon at grand floridian resort and taken to the medical examiner's office where an autopsy will be performed. >> i will share with you that the child was found, his body was completely intact, and so at this time we will go through the formality of making a formal identification. >> investigators say the child who is from nebraska was dragged away by an alligator believed to be four to 7 feet long. and this attack shocking people around the world tonight. >> many wondering how this could

even happen. tonight local animal experts are trying to answer that question. >> it is tragic. it is heartbreaking. it's just simply heartbreaking. there's no other way to say it. >> orange county sheriffs department officials addressing the media today after a two-year-old little boy is snatched by an alligator while wading in ankle deep water at a lagoon in disneyworld. the child's family is from nebraska. they were staying at the grand floridian resort and when alt attack took place in the seven seas lagoon right before their eyes just after 9:00 last night. >> the father did his best tried to rescue the child however to no avail. >> team of 50 people searching the waters from the air and by boat since last night. >> this is a rare, rare attack. you don't hear about these ever. super surprised. >> anne-marie, from the adventure aquarium in in camden worked with alligators over the last 30 years including this 3.5-year-old gator. the reptiles are generally more

afraid of people and tend to shy away from them. the gator likely was attracted to the movement in the water. >> alligator could have mistaken it for the splashing of say a raccoon. it was at night. so that's even worse. that's when they're most active. when they're search fog preys. >> she says it's not uncommon for alligators to be in shallow waters and says their biggest instinct is to survive. >> alligators are quick. they're smart. they know their territory. obviously this is that alligat alligator's territory. so he or she knows where to go. to get away from people. >> the florida fish and wildlife commission are still trying to find that alligator. five alligators were removed from the lagoon euthanized and examined. officials say they will look at the forensics and also continue their search in the waters by disney. according to the fish and wildlife conservation commission there were nine alligators attacks in in order last year. that was down from 10 attacks in 2014 and 15 attacks in 2013.

meanwhile in orlando, the continued aftermath from the massacre at an lgbt nightclub investigators are now trying to figure out how much the gunman's wife knew about the planned attack. so far authorities will not say whether think charges will be brought against omar mateen's wife. sources say his wife knew about what her husband was planning. meanwhile the fbi is asking anyone who knew anything about mateen to call them. they're trying to create a complete picture of why he opened fire and killed 49 people inside the pulse nightclub early sunday morning. the fbi says it has the shooter's phone and will use it to hopefully determine if mateen had visited the club before the attack. we're also on top of breaking news in south philadelphia. you may have heard it in the city. a loud boom just before 3:30 this afternoon. authorities say it happened here near 26th and christian streets in south philadelphia. get straight out to dave schratwieser who's near the scene. dave? >> reporter: dawn, a boom and some crash as some windows shattered in the building and along some homes here in the

2600 block of christian street this happened around thee 17:00 this afternoon. we'll go to skyfox for some aerial views of this. at the viola energy plant a pressure arrived steam peace of equipment gave way. a safety valve that is supposed to give way gave way, and that caused the explosion. neighbors up and down the block here and all over the area reported all kinds of tremor kind of shaking situations here. they say it sounded very much like an earthquake. >> i heard -- felt the rumble, the ground shake. heard an explosion like noise. like i said i dismissed it like an earthquake. >> the whole house shook. a large explosion. big puff of smoke. came from over there and another neighbor said that like a fiberglass or inn sewell laying or something blowing around. other than that, we don't know anything. >> sitting out there, um, taking a break and i just heard big explosion, and i ran in to check

on my friends and relatives inside, and they were okay and i heard windows shattered. >> being report to do us one of the boilers had blow out in the rear of the boiler. that's where it's designed to blow out for safety reasons. the explosion caused windows in nearby maintenance building to blow out. it caused one minor injury to an employee, and steam service was not interrupted at all to any of parts of the city. >> reporter: that one injury was someone hit by flying glass. refused to go to the hospital. was treated on scene. the fire department has now cleared the scene. they continue to investigate and work with viola energy officials trying to get to the bottom of what caused this. again loud explosion what felt like an earthquake according to some folks down here around 3:17 this afternoon. again, one minor injury. 10 workers were evacuated from the building. they are now back inside. back at work as the fire department, police department and local energy officials continue to investigate what touched this off. iain? >> all right.

dave, thank you. we are track something rain in your fox 29 weather authority. ultimate doppler as you can see showing the trouble there's even more on the way. let's check in with meteorologist kathy orr. >> those were a few appetizer showers. the real main course is to the west and that moves in just in time for the morning rush. high temperatures today on the warm side in philadelphia so far 79. we could touch 80. 78 in pottstown. 83 degrees in allentown with a lot of sunshine and reading 80. where we saw the showers through central delaware and south jersey, you can see let's see dover and wildwood. temperatures in the 70s. we'll fall through the 70s to night. talk more about the rain coming up later in the broadcast. >> all right, kathy, thank you. happening now, an investigation into a frightening crash in the city's olney second. skyfox over that scene after a philadelphia police suv and another car collide. it sent both vehicles off the road coming to rest right in front of a church. medics rushed four people including two officers to the hospital. let's get straight out to fox 29's karen hepp live at the

scene in roll feature karen, neighbors describing a pretty scary situation. >> reporter: absolutel absolute. up and done the street heard the crash. you can see where one of the crews ended. pieces of these cars were all over the police place. police cruiser went up over here on this side a police suv and another vehicle driven by civilians that wound up on the other steps. quite a scene out here today. the police suv wound up on the side steps of the first presbyterian church of olney. the sedan on the front steps. the pastor could hear the crash from inside. >> sounded like the doors were shaking real hard. >> reporter: neighbors up and down the block heard the impact of the two vehicles right here at west take bore and third street. you can see where one of the officers in the passenger seat smacked their head on the windshield. skyfox was overhead as they were loaded on to stretchers and rushed to nearby einstein hospital. police say the officers from the 35th district were on their way as backup to help out on a nearby arrest when the crash happened. >> it's very bad.

very bad. >> reporter: black maxima was heavily damaged. you can see most of the air bags blue. police say both the driver and passenger were hurt. >> the lady that was hurt in the other car was expressing some diss comfort with her head. >> reporter: she and her friend were also race the over to einstein where right now all victims are in stable condition. the accident shut down the intersection for hours. while investigators tried to figure out what happened and who was at fault. people literally stopped and stared gawking at unusual site. >> if you don't see a police car on your steps every day, but, yeah, i mean a little shocking, but things happen. >> reporter: so the accident investigation unit which will be out here we call it aid were out here this afternoon and making determinations and measurements exact who'll was at fault. we'll get the report to follow up and everybody that was injured today was taken over to einstein and they are all in stable condition. that's the very latest from out

here, dawn, back to you. >> karen, thank you. to developing story in delaware. police are working to figure out who shot three boys and a girl the oldest 16. the youngest just 12 years old. it happened last night on south van burr recent street in wilmington much those young people are being treated for their injuries. tonight neighbors are shaken by the shooting and fed up with the violence in their community. fox 29's bruce gordon is live at wilmington police headquarters. bruce? >> reporter: yeah, dawn, with the fourth of july right around the corner, most of us hear loud popping noises at night and we figure fireworks. but in wilmington's most dangerous neighborhoods that sound can mean just one thing. gunfire. 82-year-old john bets sits in the doorway of the appliance repair shop he's owned at south van buren and elm for half a century. he hadn't heard about tuesday night's shooting until reporter as letted him. his shop closes at 3:00 p.m. >> why so early? >> well, because the

neighborhood is bad. yeah. >> reporter: you don't want to be open when it gets dark? >> no. >> reporter: it was around 9:15 tuesday night when shots rang out near this intersection in the city's hedgeville neighborhood. third shooting incident here in the past week. latest shooting injured four teenagers including 12-year-old christian william. >> there was gunfire, pow pow pow pow pow pow pow. i got up from my bed. oh said oh christian. >> williams grandmother ran outside to see him sitting on the steps of a row home nursing wounds to his hip and his leg. >> i saw blood. he was in shock trembling. >> reporter: fuentes family was returning home from the grocery store bringing the bags inside when the shooting start started. storm door on the house next door was shattered by are a rant shot. what did your dad say to you? >> to get, torque get on the ground or get in the house. >> reporter: he was scared for your safety? >> yeah. but i thought -- i thought for

inside an apartment building in coatesville. the flames broke out around 12:30 this afternoon. crews had to shut down business route 30 to fight the fire. still no word yet on how it started or any reports of injuries. across the river in new jersey, a tanker fire causing more traffic problems. skyfox over the new jersey turnpike in hamilton township, mercer county. that's where this tanker burst into flames just after 10:00 this morning. authorities shut down traffic in both directions while crews worked to get the fire out. there are reports one person was hurt. we're hearing that injury was minor. philadelphia police have released surveillance video they say shows the van that hit and killed a 17-year-old girl. police think the mini van shown here possibly chevy venture was the one that hit and killed 17-year-old march kayla jackson monday night. it happened along the roosevelt boulevard near adams avenue. investigators say the teen was thrown nearly 200 feet after being hit. she decide at the. a vigil for jackson is scheduled

for tonight near the scene of the accident. the faint of u.s. representative chaka fattah and his four co-defendants now rests in the hands of the jury. fattah a veteran member of the house is charged with 29 counts of corruption related offenses. at the core of the government's case is an illegal $1 million campaign lone fattah alleged to have set up in a month long trial the defense claims the feds cherry picked evidence to summer fattah and the others after hearing instructions from judge harvey bar tell the jury began deliberations at 3:00 this afternoon. the wawa welcome america festival is just a few weeks away, and organizers are promising it will be better than ever. they have a news conference today to lay out the details. the fun gets started on jun june 27th with 35 events and 350 performers. visitors will enjoy free admission to eight museums and seven free public movie nights in various spots across the city. in addition to that, they'll be three firework displays and life

it was a slow commute for drivers on i-95 through part of the philadelphia today. skyfox over the northbound lanes right near girard avenue where this crash involving a tractor trailer caused delays for several hours. it happened right smack dab in the middle of rush hour around 8:00 o'clock this morning. the truck then burst into flames. crews finally got things moving again by 11:00 o'clock. happening now, the search for a robber caught on camera. pulling a gun he held up a 7eleven in frankford early monday morning. surveillance camera was rolling when he walk into the store on harrison avenue around 4:30 in the morning. police say he points a gun at a clerk and demands money and lottery tickets. the clerk hands it over. then the robber took off. no word how much money he took off with. egypt says it has spotted the wreckage of the egypt airplane that crashed into the

mad yann last month killing all 66 people on board. authorities say today a ship contracted by the egyptian government to join the search efforts found the wreckage. the plane disappeared from radar on its way from cairo to paris. no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. former olympic sprinter oscar pistorius stands without his prosthetic legs. pistorius gnaw a courtroom today for his second sentencing hearing since being convicted of murdering his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. his lawyer wanted to show that pistorius is a vulnerable man who deserves leniency during sentencing. pistorius shot through a bathroom door killing steenkamp in february of 2013. his lawyers argued that pistorius mistook her for an intruder. south africa has a minimum 15 year prison sentence for murder under certain circumstances this can be reduced by a judge pistorius will be sentenced neck month. back here in the u.s. democratic senator has launch add filibuster to force a vote

>> we continue to follow developing story out of orlando tonight where police say an alligator snatched two-year-old boy and dragged him into the water at a walt disneyworld resort last night. just an hour ago, authorities announced that they have recovered the boy's body. >> fox's katie burgess joins us from orlando now. kate what have authorities revealed about the discovery of the body? >> reporter: well, they're telling us that they found two-year-old lane graves about

10 to 15 feet out from where he was playing with his family along the waters edge. they found him using sonar in water about 6 feet deep. that was about 1:45 this afternoon. they're telling us that they told the family because the body was found totally intact. they've done, you know, preliminary identification of him and now the investigation is shifting to whether or not they actually have the gator involved in this. it was an 8-foot gator. we're told that lane's father wrestled with the gator tried to save his son but the gator snatched the baby and they launched a massive search effort. they had orange county sheriffs office, dive team, fwc in the air and the water as i said using sonar to locate the baby, but this very complex system of water ways here on disney property. they're manmade lakes mostly and connected usually by underwater canals. so they had massive search area turns out that the child was found about 10, 15 feet as i said in the waters from where he

was playing in seven seas lagoon. >> disney resort, a lot of people go there for vacation. how is disney respond to go all of this? >> reporter: well, disney obviously is sending out their condolences. this is a horrific tragedy and only ones in recent memory disney has been operating for 45 years. they've never had anything like this. and a lot of people have been questioning the signage here on disney property now. near the seven seas lagoon there were sign that is said no swimming but there were no sign that is warned about alligator and disney has a very robust wildlife management program here. they have a team of people that monitor these waters 24 hours day. they're looking for alligators that are showing aggression, that are,, what we call nuisance alligators. and this a reality that we deal with here in florida. so that's why they have this system here in place when they find alligators that seem to have lost their fear of people disney trappers remove them themselves. they don't get fwc involved

usually there most the alligators euthanize them. once you find an alligator showing aggression like this, the only thing you can do is put it down. because if you move it you're moving a problem as fwc was saying today. disney, you know, they don't have tragedies like this that they are routinely dealing with. their heart broken as well. speaspeaking with spokesperson today, and they're just looking at their own system. what do they needed to now to put in place so this doesn't happen again? >> all right. fox's kate burgess life for us in orlando. kate, thank you. elsewhere in orlando investigators are still trying to link together the chain of events that let up to this past weekend's terror attack. 49 people were killed when omar mateen opened fire inside a gay nightclub. fbi is now trying to figure out how much mateen's wife knew about the planned attack. authorities are also asking for the public to call in with any information they may have about the shooter. meantime the fbi says it's

so the air still relatively dry with low humidity. 75 in the poconos. 73 in dover. a rain cooled 71 in millville. it is only 70 degrees in wildwood. down the shore you can see 74 in ocean city. we did not have any showers. boardwalk and ac70 and the southern point right there of lbi in beach haven 72 degrees. so a nice afternoon down the shore. this evening if you're going to the phils game no weather issues. more clouds, 76. a quiet night by 9:00 p.m. 70. clouds and comfortable at 11:00 p.m. with a temperature of 68. but showers will not be far away. they will be to the west of us at 11:00 o'clock and expect some rain overnight into tomorrow morning. we'll watch our area of low pressure move through the regi region. you can see this warm front as well. low offshore will help to enhance the shower activity and we will be seeing on shore flow by the afternoon. the main threat of rain between about 4:00 and 8:00 a.m. but still some scattered showers in the afternoon and the temperatures struggling only to reach 73 degrees. so it will be a bit of a dreary

day but the biggest impact of rain will definitely be in the morning. so thursday it is going to be a rainy start to the day for sure. friday a chance of a morning shower, otherwise, pretty dece decent. saturday and sunday the best two days coming up in that seven day forecast. of course, our dad over there iain is like yes, it will be great. fox future cast as we go hour by hour you can see during the evening, we'll see a few clouds. here comes the rain, already in harrisburg by 11:00 p.m. we have already clouded up by then. look at 4:00 a.m. sue serio and bob kelly are going to be talking about the rain. right along 95 and heading as you go south in dover and even along the expressway heading to 295 and 95. so this is 4am the reds and oranges some thunderstorms as well. moving right up the i-95 corridor through south jersey by 7am you still have some rain so i do anticipate a real slow down and then as the morning continues we see some showers just lingering into the afternoon as well. we have to be watchful to the west because we have u.s. open

in oakmont pa to the northeast of pittsburgh. and they are going to be seeing some heavy rain as well. so we'll see if they play during the afternoon tomorrow. friday looks pretty decent. we'll be seeing drying conditions leading into a great holiday weekend. in the city overnight 64. the suburbs 59. the clouds thickening the rain toward midnight. during the day tomorrow, 73. rain heavy especially in the morning becoming more scattered in the afternoon. and as we look ahead, at the u.s. open forecast, oakmont, will be beautiful time by the week and but showers and some storms during the day on thursday. and early shower friday but i think they will definitely play. saturday looks great. 81 sunny and nice for your sunday 83 and of course you can watch the us open right here on fox 29. seven day forecast looks pretty good after we get through tomorrow. friday increasing sun. the high near 80. 82 saturday. and for our dads and grand dads on sunday looks great. sunny and nice 84 degrees. summer begins on monday and guess what? it is going to feel

>> troubling news tonight about nutrition around the globe. a third of the people worldwide are either under nourished or over waste according to the global nutrition report from the international food policy research institute. researchers say this malnourish many drives disease and pressure on health services in the u.s. the data shows when one person per household is obese and that household spends average of 8% of their annual income health care costs related to obesity meanwhile the fda sending food safety warning letter to wholefoods. >> officials say the grocery chain has until the end of the month to make some big-time changes. wholefoods has been ordered to correct problems at a massachusetts plant that supplies ready to eat products at its stores across the northeast. the fda noted serious violations saying wholefoods failed to manufacture, pack casm and store food in a way that reducing the potential for contamination.

wholefoods says it has corrected each and every of the issues identified in an earlier warning letter from the fda back in february. a car plumps over a 150-foot cliff in california and the driver survives. the car went off the road early this morning just outside los angeles. police say it fell about 100 feet and got wedged in some brush. the driver got out and made his way out to the beach below. rescue crews repelled down the cliff to make sure there was no one else in the car. the driver is injured but expected to survive. no word yet on what caused the crash. our cover much ratch of the orlando nightclub massacre continues tonight. investigators continuing to look at the wife trying to figure out how much she knew about the attack. still to come, the fate she could be facing. plus big news about coffee. the world health organization just making a big announcement about the morning favorite that may make it ease your for yourself to pour another cup. howard. >> the phillies back at home tonight with an interesting lineup the manager is putting out there.
